What it is

Hello Alpha is an online clinic whose providers are trained in women’s health but also treat men for most conditions [16]. Weight loss is one of the conditions it covers. You pay a monthly membership, complete online visits without booking an appointment, and message your provider around the clock [17]. Prescriptions go to its partner mail-order pharmacies or, on request, to a pharmacy you choose [14].

What it prescribes

Hello Alpha says it prescribes only FDA-approved medicines [1]. Its weight-loss FAQ names Foundayo, Wegovy, Ozempic, Mounjaro and Zepbound [2]. The Zepbound vial is offered through LillyDirect and is cash pay only [3]. It does not prescribe controlled drugs such as phentermine [15]. We found no compounded GLP-1s on its pages. Ozempic and Mounjaro are diabetes medicines used off-label for weight; see approved uses.

What it costs

The membership prices are published; the drug prices are not. The Plus+ plan the weight-loss page points you to costs $79 a month and includes 4 online visits a month [4]. A Basic plan at $29 a month includes 2 visits a month [5]. The medicine is paid for separately at the pharmacy, either through insurance or at the cash price. Insurance

Hello Alpha does not take insurance for its own fees, but your insurance may pay for the medicine at the pharmacy [7]. Three limits matter. Medicare, Medicaid and other government plans cannot be used for its prescriptions [8]. It will not help with prior authorization for diabetes drugs used off-label for weight unless you have type 2 diabetes [9]. And if your insurer denies the drug, the Plus+ fee is not refunded [10]. Signing up and cancelling

The membership is month-to-month with no commitment, and you can cancel anytime [6]. The terms add that fees already charged are non-refundable, so cancel before the next renewal [11].

Where it operates

You must be in the United States to use the service [12]. It does not publish a state list, and it says some states bar prescribing certain medicines by virtual care [13].

Who it suits, and who should look elsewhere

Hello Alpha suits someone with commercial drug coverage who wants an FDA-approved GLP-1, ongoing messaging with one provider and no long contract. Look elsewhere if you are on Medicare or Medicaid, if you want the drug price bundled into one monthly figure, or if you would rather not pay a membership while an insurance decision is pending.
