Wegovy patient assistance: what Novo Nordisk's program says

Novo Nordisk runs a Patient Assistance Program that gives free medicine to people who qualify, but its public web page does not say whether Wegovy is one of the medicines it covers. The product list is a separate PDF. If you need Wegovy at the lowest price you can confirm today, the realistic routes are Novo’s self-pay prices, the Wegovy savings card if a job-based plan covers it, and the Medicare GLP-1 Bridge.

What the Patient Assistance Program page says

The program, often called the PAP, provides medicine at no cost to people who qualify [1]. There is no registration charge or monthly fee [2]. To be eligible you must:

• be a US citizen or legal resident [5];
• have Medicare or no insurance at all; anyone with private or commercial insurance is not eligible [3];
• not be enrolled in, or qualify for, Medicaid, Medicare Extra Help or VA benefits [4];
• have household income under the program’s limit.

The only drug the page names with its own income rule is Ozempic, a diabetes medicine: uninsured patients can still get it if household income is at or below 200% of the federal poverty level [8]. For all other medications the page gives a limit of 400% of the poverty level [9]. The page also says some medicines left the program for 2026 [6], and it points to a separate list of covered products instead of naming them [7].

The page sits in NovoCare’s diabetes section. The NovoCare Wegovy pages read for this article do not mention the program at all. Novo’s Ozempic site gives a phone line for its assistance programs: 1-866-310-7549 [10]. Calling it is the most direct way to ask about Wegovy.

The page gives its income limits as a share of the federal poverty level, not in dollars. The dollar figures come from HHS: for 2026, the poverty guideline in the 48 contiguous states and Washington, DC is $15,960 for one person and $33,000 for a household of four [20]. At the 400% limit [9], that works out to $63,840 a year for one person and $132,000 for four [20].

Which route fits you

• No insurance, low income. Ask the PAP phone line whether Wegovy is covered and what income limit applies. While you wait, the pill’s starting dose is the lowest confirmed cash price.
• Job-based or Marketplace plan. You cannot use the PAP. If the plan covers Wegovy, use the savings card. If it does not, you pay the self-pay price like anyone else; see Wegovy savings and self-pay prices.
• Medicare with Part D. The PAP accepts Medicare, but check the Bridge too, because its flat copay is set by CMS rather than by income.
• Medicaid. The PAP excludes you. Coverage depends on your state; see Medicaid by state.
