PlushCare review

What it is

PlushCare is an online primary-care practice. For weight loss you book a video visit with one of its doctors, who decides whether a prescription fits, and any prescription goes to the pharmacy you pick [6]. PlushCare says the weight program works with or without insurance and has no minimum commitment [3]. It is licensed in all 50 states [22].

It works more like a regular doctor’s office than an all-in weight-loss subscription. The membership buys access. Each visit, any lab work and the medicine itself are paid for separately.

What it prescribes

Its weight-loss page lists FDA-approved medicines for weight loss, including Zepbound and Wegovy, alongside older options such as Saxenda, Contrave and Xenical [4]. Before prescribing, its doctors often order lab work and send the order to a lab of your choice [5].

PlushCare does not offer compounded GLP-1s today. Its semaglutide page says compounded semaglutide cannot be prescribed unless the brand versions are on FDA’s shortage list [23], and FDA says neither semaglutide nor tirzepatide is on that list now [24].

What it costs

You pay PlushCare for the membership and the visits, and pay the pharmacy and the lab separately.

• Membership: $19.99 a month or $149 a year [2]. The first month is free [1], and the card on your profile is charged when the free month ends [26].
• Visits: $129 per visit if you pay without insurance [1]. PlushCare says it is in network with most major insurers, so insured patients pay their plan’s share instead [8].
• Medicine and labs: never part of a PlushCare price [19].

For the medicine, PlushCare’s Zepbound page lists vials through LillyDirect at $299, $399 or $449 a month depending on the dose [10]. The same page quotes a flat $650 a month for the pen [11], while LillyDirect’s own page starts the KwikPen at $299 a month [12]. PlushCare’s Wegovy page says Wegovy through NovoCare starts at $499 [13] and describes an intro price it calls valid only through March 2026 [14]. NovoCare’s own page lists $349 a month once the intro fills are used [15]. Check the maker’s page before you pay. Our PlushCare cost page adds up the first year with sources.

On insurance, PlushCare says many prescriptions are covered and its care team can handle prior authorization [7]. If the insurer refuses, or you have no insurance, you can still buy the drug at the full cash price [9]. HSA or FSA money cannot pay the membership fee [25].

Signing up and cancelling

The membership keeps renewing until you cancel, and you can cancel at any time [16]. To avoid the next charge, finish cancelling in your account at least one calendar day before the renewal date [17]. A paid membership stays active to the end of the term you paid for and then stops [18].

Refunds are narrow. If PlushCare cannot treat you it offers a full refund, which excludes medicine and lab costs [19] and covers the appointment, not the membership [20]. Prescriptions cannot be returned or refunded [21]. Our guide on cancelling a GLP-1 program covers what to settle first.

Safety and regulatory record

PlushCare prescribes FDA-approved brand-name medicines, and an outside pharmacy or the maker’s own pharmacy fills them. GLPLens searched FDA’s warning-letter database in September and found no letter to PlushCare about GLP-1 products. Its only mention of compounded semaglutide ties it to a shortage that FDA no longer lists [23] [24].

Who it suits, and who should look elsewhere

PlushCare fits people with commercial insurance that covers its visits, who want one primary-care doctor to handle the prescription, the labs and the insurance paperwork. It also suits people who already know which brand they want and plan to buy it straight from LillyDirect or NovoCare.
