WeightWatchers Med+ review

WeightWatchers' app, workshops and coaching plus a clinician who prescribes FDA-approved drugs only. The catch is the contract: the published plans run 6 or 12 months, renew for the same length, and cannot be cut short.

What it is

WeightWatchers Med+ pairs WeightWatchers’ app and behavior program with prescribing. Medical care comes from its affiliated medical group, WeightWatchers Clinic [8]. Members get access to GLP-1s such as Wegovy and Zepbound if they qualify [7], workshops in person or online [9], and a Care Team that works on insurance coverage for the medicine [4].

The membership and the medicine are billed separately [3].

What it prescribes

WeightWatchers says it prescribes FDA-approved medications only [5]. Its FAQ names Wegovy, Saxenda and Zepbound among the GLP-1s its clinicians may prescribe [6], and separate pages offer the Wegovy pill [13] and Foundayo [14]. Zepbound is bought through LillyDirect [23], and the Wegovy pill comes from CenterWell Pharmacy [13].

Some members need lab work before the first consultation, done by their own doctor or WeightWatchers’ lab partner [18]. The pages do not say who pays for it.

What it costs

The published Med+ plans run 12 or 6 months [1]. The first month is $25, then $74 a month on the 12-month plan or $84 a month on the 6-month plan for the rest of the term [1]. We did not find a month-to-month price on the pages we read.

Its self-pay drug prices:

  • Zepbound vials and KwikPens: $299 a month at the starting dose, up to $449 for higher doses [10].
  • Wegovy pill: $149 a month at the starting dose, up to $299, delivered by CenterWell Pharmacy [13].
  • Foundayo: $149 a month at the starting dose, up to $299 [14].

One mismatch to watch: WeightWatchers’ Zepbound page says a late refill of the 7.5 mg dose costs $599 [11], while LillyDirect’s own page lists $499 [12]. LillyDirect sets and charges the price, so trust its page. Our WeightWatchers Med+ cost page adds up the first year with sources.

On insurance, the Zepbound single-dose pen can be covered [15], but the insurance coordinators only work with commercial plans [16]. People on government plans, Kaiser members and the uninsured pay cash for a GLP-1 [17]. WeightWatchers’ Foundayo page also explains the Medicare GLP-1 Bridge, under which people who qualify pay a $50 monthly copay for certain GLP-1s [22]; see our Medicare Bridge guide.

Signing up and cancelling

This is the weak point. On a multi-month plan, cancelling takes effect only when the commitment period ends [19]. The fee cannot be refunded or cancelled once a commitment period has started [20], and the first consultation fee is not refundable after you sign up [21].

Plans also renew for another full 12 or 6 months at the same rate [2]. If you do not want a second term, cancel before the first one ends. After a commitment period is over, a cancellation takes effect at the end of that month [19]. Our cancelling guide has a checklist.

Safety and regulatory record

WeightWatchers prescribes FDA-approved medications only [5], filled by LillyDirect or CenterWell Pharmacy. GLPLens searched FDA’s warning-letter database in September and found no letter to WeightWatchers about GLP-1 products.

Who it suits, and who should look elsewhere

Med+ suits people who already like WeightWatchers’ program, plan to stay at least six months, and either have commercial drug coverage or want to pay the makers’ cash prices.

Look elsewhere if you want to try a program month to month, if you are unsure you will stay a full term, or if you are on Medicaid or a Kaiser plan and hoped for insurance help. WeightWatchers does not publish a list of the states where Med+ is available.
